BEPPE BARBERA

Arranger and composer, with a conservatory degree in piano and jazz music, Beppe Barbera has been working for some years in the jazz music domain. After attending many jazz courses in Perugia, Siena and Ravenna, he has perfected his technique with Franco D'Andrea. He has performed at clubs and festivals and has given concert lessons and lectures on improvisation in various institutes (public and private schools, musical institutes and conservatories). He has taken part to RAI radio and television programmes and has collaborated on the creation of theatrical productions. As a composer, he has worked for very heterogeneous groups (different kinds of arch and chamber orchestras) scoring pieces of music that have been executed and recorded on several occasions. He has also arranged pieces for choirs, big bands and ensembles. Many of his compositions are published by Bèrben and Animando.
His projects in the jazz realm move in different, sometimes clashing, directions. In some contexts he prefers chamber, intimate atmospheres marked by a careful search for the timbric-harmonic quality and by the dialogue with partners. In other contexts his music reveals a more restless, ironic and sparkling touch. The experiences developed over the years in different musical fields (classical, folk, jazz, songs,…) deeply affect all of Barbera's works, keeping a fair balance between the structured parts and the improvised ones.
